How To Build A Dream TeamA couple of days ago I posted part 1 of how to build a dream team – welcome to part 2 ๐Ÿ™‚

One of the most critical components to our success as leaders is to surround ourselves with the right people; people that have a desire to raise the standard in their life to match the standard of your dream.

As we make sure that we have the right people in the right positions of leadership on our team (or in the right positions period), we need to diagnose the condition of the people that are serving alongside us if we’re going to learn how to build a dream team.

If you have a desire to learn how to build a dream team so that your business/organization explodes, then you’re really going to enjoy this post.

Review: Part 1 – How To Build A Dream Team (Steps 1-5)

In part 1 of ‘how to build a dream team’, we discussed the first 5 steps to making sure that we have the right people around us that will propel is to where we want to go. We also discussed the importance of having a big vision. Ultimately, if you can figure out a way to accomplish your dream all by yourself without learning how to build a dream team, then chances are your dream isn’t big enough.

The first 5 steps to learning how to build a dream team are:

  1. You gotta have a dream
  2. Understand that you can’t do it yourself
  3. You must clearly communicate the plan and the vision
  4. Transition the right/wrong people in/out of the team
  5. Don’t just take anybody

Steps 6-10 On How To Build A Dream Team

If you haven’t read Leadership Tips: How To Build A Dream Team Part 1 – I would highly encourage you to read it first ๐Ÿ™‚

Step 6: Create Individual ‘Buy In’ Into The Vision

They key to this step is finding a way to tie in your teams own personal individual goals into that of their present activity. Whatever their positionย  is – it can be a greeter, sweeping the floors, sending out emails,ย  waiting tables, it could be a mundane task or it could be a glamorous task – if they can tie their present activity with their future dreams and goals, they will buy into the vision. Why? Because they feel like they’re being developed and groomed to succeed in their own personal goals as a result.

Get Plugged InStep 7: Make Sure The Individual Feels Plugged Into The Vision

If we’re going to learn how to build a dream team in our church, business, or organization, then we need to make sure the individual feels plugged into the vision. While creating ‘buy in’ is what comes first, it makes no difference what the individual believes if it doesn’t cause them to spring into action. We have to make sure that our vision becomes their vision, or in other words, the individual must assimilate (or own) the vision for themselves. Unfortunately, many don’t and this is why in network marketing we have a bunch of people that don’t succeed. They attend all the events, trainings, and meetings – but at the end of the day they haven’t internalized the vision. They believe in the industry, or else they wouldn’t have joined. They believe in the company’s vision, or else they wouldn’t be a part of the vision. They believe all of these good things but yet their belief hasn’t produced any action.

Step 8: Let The Team Go

This is where empowerment comes into play when talking about how to build a dream team. You’ve set the vision, you’ve set the stage, you’ve created the atmosphere and the environment for them to flourish – but now you have to let people do what you’ve coached them and called them to do.

I can’t stress this point enough – if you’re going to truly learn how to build a dream team that is effective, then you have to let people go do what you’ve brought them on board to do! You can’t control everything…

This is where the rubber meets the road and you must trust your and set up the infrastructure and empower people what they’ve been called to do! If we duplicate ourselves, this is where we multiply our efforts and our productivity goes up as a result.

Step 9: Re-diagnose The Team

This is a very important step when it comes to building a dream team. We’ve taken the time to invest, shift people in and out of positions, created buy in, made sure they’re plugged into the vision, and we’ve let them go to do what we’ve coached them to do – now it’s time to re-diagnose the team. What’s the condition – or the health – of the team? You ought to inspect what you expect. As leaders, it’s our responsibility to inspect everything so that we can validate our team and make sure they are maximizing on their fullest potential. You also want to make sure they’re happy. No one wants to dread coming to work, right? A happy team produces happy results. Many people say they want to value their customers, but you can’t value your customers if you don’t value your team. Attitude reflects leadership and you can’t give what you don’t have. If you don’t have value, then you can’t give value.

As you grow, you’re going to want to make adjustments and move and shift things around so as to maximize every person and every situation to its fullest potential.

Step 10: Affirm And Redirect

Everybody loves feedback, but unfortunately, many people don’t give it. When learning how to build a dream team we must be able to evaluate our team to make sure they’re moving in the right direction – and if they’re not then we need to redirect. We can’t grow without feedback and when we give it, we give our team an opportunity to make changes and redirect their actions and positions. It also affirms to the team that we care about them and their growth as a part of the team and as a person in general.
